Why Kurt Russell Was at O.J. Simpson’s House During Infamous Car Chase
Kurt Russell has a habit of “crossing paths” with “killers,” according to his two stepchildren.
Kate and Oliver Hudson, who were both raised by the Escape from New York actor along with their mother, Goldie Hawn, shared some of Russell’s “crazy stories” this week during a shared appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! While Kate said the public often focuses on their mother, she described Russell as “such an interesting man.”
“There are so many things people don’t know about Kurt,” the Almost Famous actress said, adding that Russell “always finds himself in some sort of scenario.”
Her brother then stepped in. “He’s always crossing paths, somehow, with killers,” The Cleaning Lady actor told host Jimmy Kimmel. His first example provided a flashback to what Russell was doing at the time of the infamous low-speed police chase involving O.J. Simpson and the former NFL player’s white Bronco in June 1994. At the time the chase was taking place in Los Angeles, Simpson was a person of interest in the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ron Goldman. Simpson was found not guilty of the murders in a criminal trial the next year.
Back in 1994, Russell “was on camera when O.J. Simpson drove to his house,” Oliver told Kimmel. “He was in the driveway. You could see him on [local news station] KTLA.”
That day, Kate said their family was watching the NBA Finals at a friend’s house “right down the street” from Simpson. The chase drew attention away from the game as people across the country tuned in to the police pursuit.
“O.J. was on the 405, and Kurt all of a sudden just went, ‘Oh, he’s going home,’” Kate recalled. “Next thing you know, he gets in the car and he leaves. And he goes to O.J.’s house.”
Oliver said their stepfather went directly to the source “just to see it all unfold.”
“We’re watching the news—because we were watching the NBA Finals, it was interrupted—and we saw our dad on television, like behind the caution tape,” Kate said.
In addition to the Simpson story, the siblings said Russell has shared other “run-ins” of interest: one with Ted Bundy and another with Tex Watson, a member of Charles Manson’s “Manson Family.” The Bundy interaction was more of a hunch, with Russell suspecting the serial killer stole his food after escaping from a Colorado prison while Russell was camping in the area, according to Oliver. The actor also may have “beat up” Watson at one point, Oliver added.
“I might not believe either of these stories,” Kate said.
