Why Leonardo DiCaprio's Girlfriend Camila Morrone Isn't with Him at the Golden Globes
Leonardo DiCaprio and his 22-year-old girlfriend Camila Morrone are going very strong, having just vacationed together in St. Barts over the New Year's Eve holiday. But it's back to work tonight at the Golden Globes, and the couple opted not to walk the red carpet together. Although DiCaprio and Morrone have been together for roughly two years, the two have never posed alongside each other at an industry event. DiCaprio also hasn't brought Morrone as his plus one to any award shows.
Only DiCaprio was photographed at the Globes. While Morrone is a rising actress and has gotten buzz for her performance in Mickey and the Bear, she is not a nominee or presenter tonight. DiCaprio, meanwhile, is both. He has a Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy nomination for his work in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He was just announced as a presenter alongside his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood co-star Brad Pitt on Friday.
Morrone spoke this fall about their 23-year age gap, the most either has ever said about their largely-private romance. The judgement from the world does bother her a bit, she told the Los Angeles Times: “There’s so many relationships in Hollywood—and in the history of the world— where people have large age gaps,” she said. “I just think anyone should be able to date who they want to date.” She added that she does get why people care though: “I probably would be curious about it too.”
She said she hopes people recognize her as an actress in her own right rather than DiCaprio's young girlfriend. “I think more and more now that people are seeing the film [Mickey and the Bear], I’m slowly getting an identity outside of that,” she said. “Which is frustrating, because I feel like there should always be an identity besides who you’re dating…I understand the association, but I’m confident that will continue to slip away and be less of a conversation.”
