It seems that if we want insider information on the future of the MCU, we should be asking Paul Rudd.

The star sat out Avengers: Infinity War, but he actually knew about the movie's devastating ending for some time. "I knew about it early on because when we were writing Ant-Man, I had to know about these things," he told Digital Spy.

"I had to know about some stuff in the future because we were going to have to address it in some way. I remember hearing about it and thinking, 'Oh wow, that's gonna be major,' and then years later, lo and behold..."

Now we're not sure if he's talking about the first Ant-Man movie, written in 2014 and released in 2015, or last year's sequel Ant-Man and The Wasp which directly tied into Infinity War in the credits scene.

If Rudd did mean Ant-Man, then it would be especially interesting as that movie introduced the Quantum Realm to the MCU, something that is rumoured to be important in Avengers: Endgame.

As for Rudd's co-star Scarlett Johansson, she didn't seem to know as early, but had a similar reaction to Rudd.

"I think Joe Russo called me, either it was Joe Russo or Kevin Feige or the combination of the two called me to talk to me about the Snap, and I was like, 'That is so brave, how are you gonna get out of that?' They were like, 'We'll figure it out'," she recalled.

Johansson has also spoken about why Avengers: Endgame was a "bittersweet" experience for her, while the Russo Brothers have revealed how all the fallen Marvel stars reacted to the Snap.

Avengers: Endgame will be released in the US on April 26.
