Why the Queen Wore Green with Meghan Markle

While Meghan Markle wore white Givenchy, the Queen stepped out in a lime green ensemble for their first royal engagements together this morning. But the significance of the sovereign's look could be deeper than just making a bold statement; it may also be a tribute to the Grenfell Tower Fire.

Today marks the one year anniversary of the deadly fire that killed 72 people in London, and the color green is being used to honor those lost in the tragedy. Grenfell Tower and other prominent buildings were lit up in green last night in honor of the victims. People also wore green at memorial services today and the neighborhood surrounding Grenfell was adorned with green decorations, BBC reports. There's also a green heart badge that people are wearing to honor those lost. Public figures including London mayor Sadiq Khan and Prime Minister Theresa May were seen with it, according to The Sun.

It doesn't come as a surprise that the Queen also paid homage with her green look by royal couturier Stewart Parvin and matching hat by Rachel Trevor Morgan. Though she was miles away from London in Chester with her granddaughter-in-law, Her Majesty still honored the Grenfell victims with 72 seconds of silence during her day of royal duties. The Duchess of Sussex, and others present at the engagements-including the well-wishers-did the same.

This also isn't Her Majesty's first time sporting lime at an event with the Duchess of Sussex. At the royal wedding last month, she also donned the bright shade at Windsor Castle. This time around, she added some purple accents to her ensemble.
