Why Robin Roberts Will Be Absent from 'GMA' in September
Robin Roberts will be absent from Good Morning America for some of September for a special reason.
On Wednesday, Aug. 30, the show's co-host announced on air that it was her last appearance before taking some time off for her nuptials with Amber Laign. "This is my last day before the wedding," she shared with fans.
In a sweet clip shared to Instagram, Roberts said, "My last, when I return here in September, I will have a ring on it, I’ll be a married woman, but right now, I’m going to the Chapel of Love," before giddily dancing off the set while "Chapel of Love" by The Dixie Cups played in the background.
"Just can’t contain my absolute joy for the very fast approaching big day! Right, Sweet Amber? #Heyyyyy ??" she captioned the sweet video.
Roberts previously spoke about the upcoming wedding with co-anchors Gio Benitez, Ginger Zee, and Laura Spencer, sharing footage from her and Laign going to their dress fitting for custom-made gowns designed by Mark Badgley and James Mischka. Though the finished dresses were hidden on camera, fans were able to see the women's ecstatic reactions to the progress.
"The final fitting, we're going to do separately, because I want us to each see each other in final dress for the first time at the wedding," said Roberts.
The couple has been together for 18 years, after meeting on a blind date in July 2005, and will finally be tying the knot in September, though a specific date for the nuptials was not revealed.
Viewers were also given a sneak peek at the ceremony, with the wedding planner JoAnn Gregoli showing some of the decorations, including monogrammed greenery with the brides' initials and a cascade of flowers.
Gregoli additionally displayed the centerpieces, which consisted of pink flowers and gold candles. There were also roundtables with a tree in the middle, which were said to "anchor the dance floor left and right." At one point, Laign got teary-eyed upon seeing a bar that was custom-made for the wedding, realizing that the couple's vision for the festivities was coming to life.
