Why Stephen Colbert Says He Would ‘Murder’ for Taylor Swift

Stephen Colbert says he would go to great lengths for Taylor Swift because of one sweet moment the pop star once shared with his 14-year-old daughter.

The anecdote came up during a March 13 episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert as the late night host was discussing the “All Too Well” singer with actor Paul Rudd.

After learning that Rudd’s 14-year-old daughter is a Swiftie, Colbert shared that his daughter also loves Swift. Colbert explained he once had an opportunity to introduce his then-14-year-old daughter to the “Cruel Summer” songstress as they attended the Grammy Awards.

“Taylor was so nice to her that, to this day, I would murder for her, if she wanted me to,” Colbert said. While the audience laughed, Rudd nodded in understanding.

Colbert explained he felt so strongly about Swift “because she was nice” to his daughter. “She said, ‘Pretty girl!’ I’m like, whatever you want. My queen,” Colbert said.

Rudd is also a longtime Kansas City Chiefs fan who now shares that fandom with his two children. During his chat with Colbert, Rudd said he was touched by stories of fathers and daughters connecting over Swift and football as Swift attended games to support her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

As Swift fans tuned into NFL broadcasts during Chiefs games for a chance to glimpse Swift onscreen, some parents discovered a new opportunity to spend time with their young Swifties.

Swift attended 13 games during the 2023 NFL season after she and Kelce took their relationship public last fall. On Feb. 11, she cheered Kelce on as his team won its second consecutive Super Bowl. He returned the support by traveling to Australia and Singapore afterward to attend some of her international Eras Tour concerts.

With Swift now on a temporary break from performing before the European leg of her Eras Tour begins in May, sources close to the couple have said they are focused on spending time with each other and close friends and family, before their career demands pick up again.
