Why 'Stranger Things' Star David Harbour Believes 'It's Definitely Time' for the Series to End

Jim Hopper is ready to say 'so long' to 'Stranger Things.'

Stranger Things fans may take offense to David Harbour's desire to see the series wrap up, but we can't really argue with his logic.

Ahead of the Netflix hit's fifth and final season, the series favorite sat down for an interview with Discussing Film, where he chatted about the impending end of the classic '80s-themed sci-fi show. During the discussion, Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper, admitted that he doesn't mind that the show is gearing up to air its final episodes.

Much like the rest of us, when he first started the show, he never wanted to see it end; sure, he'd love the series even if he wasn't cast in it. But now, nearly nine years since Season 1 was shot, he says, "I think it is time for it to end."

Harbour, 47, continued, "...it is, of course, very bittersweet. You know, there’s a sadness there." But the whole cast has grown up quite a bit since the beginning, himself included. "It is time for us to leave that nest and try other things and different projects."

Harbour is also excited to see new projects come from the show's creators, the Duffer Brothers. "I mean, those guys are so talented. I want to see what they come up with next. So it is bittersweet, but it’s definitely time."

His costar and on-screen adopted daughter, Millie Bobby Brown, once shared how she'd plan to end the series, speaking with Total Film about her desire to help write the final script as a musical episode.

"I’d love to be the writer!" she said at the time. "I’d make it more of a musical. But, you know, they don’t entrust it in the hands of me, which they should. "Trust me, I can do the finale to Stranger Things, and it would be great. I think it should be like It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Did you ever see the musical episode? It needs to end like that–a musical episode."

While we love the camp that comes with the show's setting, a musical episode might be pushing it a little too far. Still, we can't wait to see how things go!
