Why 'The Talk's Sheryl Underwood Didn't Want to Lie About Using Wegovy

Sheryl Underwood is continuing to be open and honest about her recent weight loss transformation.
The Talk co-host, who lost 100 pounds over the last couple of years, hasn't been afraid to admit that she used Wegovy, a semaglutide injection approved by the FDA to aid in weight management.
While talking to The Messenger about why she chose not to lie about taking Wegovy, Underwood, 60, said she felt it was her "job" to be honest about using medication to reach the major loss achievement.
"I think I did my job because a lot of people were not being truthful about it," the TV personality explained, while noting that a lot of other celebrities lie about using Wegovy or Ozempic for weight loss and instead insist, "I went to the gym. I just stopped eating carbs."
"OK, if that's the story you want to tell, that's cool," Underwood stated. "I just kept seeing all these people that — one week you look this way, and the next week you look this way—so I felt I had to."
Underwood first opened up about her weight loss journey back in September 2022, having lost about 90 lbs at the time. From the get-go, the comedian was open about her use of Wegovy, and how she was trying to get her body into a healthier place with the help of her doctors and a changed-up lifestyle.
It started after she got some lab work done, when Underwood heard the words "diabetic, pre-diabetic, hypertension," and "all the things that you hear, especially with women,' she told PEOPLE at the time. That's when she decided she "really wanted to get head" of her health.
Now, Underwood isn't "afraid" to tell the truth about her weight loss story, reiterating to The Messenger, "I wanted to be honest."
Plus, because of her weight loss transformation, she said, "I no longer have to take medicine for [type 2] diabetes, hypertension or any high-blood-pressure medicine."
And, Underwood has been focusing even more on her overall health, as she said she is now "getting in the gym" to "tone up and shape this body."
"So I want people to go on this journey with me. And there are a lot of men and women," she added. "It's people here that I'm like, 'I see you!'"
