Though some fans were hopeful that Tomdaya would made a joint red-carpet appearance for tonight's 74th annual Emmy Awards ceremony, Zendaya ended up walking the carpet solo. Here's why the Spider-man star skipped the night's festivities.

The actor has been busy filming his forthcoming Apple TV+ show, The Crowded Room, in New York City, which is thousands of miles away from Los Angeles, where the Emmys are currently being held.

In general, the two are amongst Hollywood's ultra-private couples. Other than their rare public outing and their joint red-carpet appearances for the Spider-man franchise movies, Zendaya and Holland rarely publicize their relationship elsewhere.

Holland reflected on fame invading the privacy of his personal life—specifically, paparazzi photos capturing him and Zendaya kissing in a car, thereby confirming their relationship to the public for the first time—in a previous interview with GQ.

"One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn't really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world," he told the magazine. "I've always been really adamant to keep my private life private, because I share so much of my life with the world anyway. We sort of felt robbed of our privacy."

Zendaya echoed that sentiment, saying, "It was quite strange and weird and confusing and invasive. The equal sentiment [we both share] is just that when you really love and care about somebody, some moments or things, you wish were your own. I think loving someone is a sacred thing and a special thing and something that you want to deal with and go through and experience and enjoy amongst the two people that love each other."
