The Wi-Fi Enabled Barbie Dreamhouse Is the New Toy That'll be on Every Kid's Wish List

If there's a dollhouse-loving kid on your holiday shopping list — or better yet, a dollhouse-loving kid who's also into tech — take a look at this fall's new smart Hello Barbie Dreamhouse.
At 26 pounds and with a depth of nearly 50 inches, plus pink floors, six rooms, two chandeliers, a fireplace, themed backdrops, a bunch of cool furniture, and an elevator, it's what anyone might describe as a true "Dreamhouse."
Not only does it look cool, but it's smart! Connect it to a Wi-Fi network and it can respond to more than 100 spoken commands. Parents will need to create an account via ToyTalk, and follow the instructions to connect the house to their own Wi-Fi network.
By preceding their commands with "Hello, Dreamhouse," kids can then tell the house what to do, like turn lights on and off, move the elevator, or turn the stairs into a slide. With the Hello Dreamhouse Companion App (available for download on October 1), kids can even record their own custom sounds for different parts of the house. Click through for a video tour!
Don't worry — PullString (the current name of ToyTalk, which partnered with Mattel back in 2015 for the conversational Hello Barbie) won't do anything creepy with your kid's voice. Per their FAQ, the Dreamhouse is able to remember things the child has said in the interest of a better play experience, but for example, "Hello Barbie may remember that the user's favorite color is blue and remember what games have been played in order to suggest new games and topics to try to keep the conversation fresh and exciting. This information is used to improve the play experience and is not used to advertise to or contact the child."
