Wiener Alert! Thousands of Pounds of Hot Dogs Recalled Ahead of July 4th Holiday
If you’re planning on grilling up some hot dogs this 4th of July, you may want to check the packaging ahead of time.
On July 1, Perdue Premium Meat Company, Inc recalled over 3,000 pounds of fully cooked beef wieners.
The recall was due to “misbranding and undeclared allergens,” according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The products in question—which were produced May 3, 2023—may contain smoked sausage, which contains the allergen milk, though it’s not specified on the product label.
The FSIS was notified by a customer who purchased what they believed to be a product of beef wieners in cartons containing hot smoked sausage.
When checking your fridge, be on the lookout for the 2-lb vacuum-sealed packages labeled “BROOKSIDE BRAND FULLY COOKED NATURAL CASING BEEF WIENERS.” The lot code being recalled is 3121 with a case code 07658 and sell by date of 8/1/23.
Another thing to look out for is the establishment number “EST 10125” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
For now, it seems as though the items being recalled were delivered to retail locations throughout Ohio.
There have been no confirmed reports of any adverse reactions as of now, though anyone experiencing an injury or illness is advised to contact a healthcare provider.
The FSIS advises consumers who purchased these products not to consume them and instead, throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
