William & Harry Commission Princess Diana Statue to Commemorate Her 60th Birthday
Prince William and Prince Harry have jointly commissioned a statue of their late mother, Princess Diana, to mark her 60th birthday.
The statue is set to be installed in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace on July 1, 2021.
Per a press release from the palace, "The Princes hope that the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on their mother’s life and her legacy."
Prince William and Prince Harry are honoring their late mother's forthcoming 60th birthday by commissioning a statue of the princess.
A new statue of Princess Diana is set to be installed in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace to mark what would have been her 60th birthday. On July 1, 2021, the commemorative statue will be unveiled, and the princes hope that it will encourage visitors to Kensington Palace to "reflect on their mother’s life and her legacy," per a press release.
The press release continued, "The statue was commissioned to mark the twentieth anniversary of her death and recognise her positive impact in the UK and around the world." According to BBC News, the statue is being created by the artist Ian Rank-Broadley.
The statue was initially commissioned by William and Harry in 2017. At the time, the princes said in a joint statement, per BBC News, "It has been 20 years since our mother's death and the time is right to recognise her positive impact in the UK and around the world with a permanent statue."
Of the statue's importance, Prince William and Prince Harry explained, "Our mother touched so many lives."
