Willow Smith Shares Cryptic Message After News of Parents' Separation
Willow Smith
Willow Smith, the youngest child shared by Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith, appears to be making a subtle comment about the recent bombshell revelation that her parents have been separated for seven years.
The singer, 22, took to her Instagram Stories in the wake of the news, reposting a graphic from yoga expert Dayal Gauranga, as seen by Hello!. It offered a definition for the word "resentment," claiming, "Resentment is literally the experience of feeling something over and over again (re-sentiment)."
It continued, "It's being stuck in a loop. A helpful question to ask myself is, 'Do I want to keep feeling this way?' If the answer is no, then I get to remind myself that I can choose to feel differently."
It's unclear if her parents' divorce, for all intents and purposes, was a shock to Willow, too, or if she's been in the know since she was a teenager, but either way, we could certainly understand the toll it's likely taking on her.
Though the couple has not filed for legal separation, Jada confirmed, "It was not a divorce on paper, but it was a divorce," when speaking with Hoda Kotb on Wednesday, Oct. 11. They kept up appearances, clearly, but have been living "completely separate lives."
As for why they kept that on the down-low, Jada said they were "trying to figure out between the two of us how to be in partnership ... In regards to, how do we present that to people? We hadn't figured that out."
The couple married in 1997, making it almost 20 years before things came to a head. Will has yet to address the separation for himself. He and Jada also share a 25-year-old son, Jaden.
