Wisconsin cities rank among nation’s top 100 for coffee lovers, according to WalletHub
(WFRV) – Coffee became popular in the United States after the Boston Tea Party, when the switch was seen as patriotic. Since Starbucks debuted in 1971, the drink is now accessible almost anywhere.
WalletHub, a personal finance website offering various services to help people improve their financial situation, compiled a list of the top 100 best coffee cities in the United States, and two of them are right here in the Badger State.
First, to determine the best cities for coffee lovers, WalletHub used 12 key metrics, which are listed below with their corresponding weights. Each metric was also graded on a 100-point scale.

Average Price of a Cappuccino: Full Weight (~7.14 Points)
Average Spending on Coffee per Household: Full Weight (~7.14 Points)
Share of Adult Coffee Drinkers: Full Weight (~7.14 Points)

Affordable Coffee Shops, Coffee Houses & Cafés Rated 4.5+ Stars per Capita*: Double Weight (~14.29 Points)

WalletHub then determined each city’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order the sample.
Madison is Wisconsin’s first entry on WalletHub’s list, ranking #73. The Wisconsin State Capitol garnered a 41.81 total score. In comparison, the best coffee city in the United States received a 67.01 total score. Milwaukee is Wisconsin’s other entry, ranking #83. Milwaukee received a total score of 38.81.
WalletHub listed Portland, Oregon, as the best coffee city, primarily because it has an extremely high number of affordable coffee shops rated at least 4.5 stars out of 5. Portland also has the ninth-most coffee shops per capita that offer free Wi-Fi.

Rounding out the top five in the United States are San Francisco, California (65.80); Seattle, Washington (65.06); Honolulu, Hawaii (63.92); and Orlando, Florida (63.79).
