Woman accuses Macy's of leaving permanent 'X' mark on her face after makeup consultation
A woman is upset after a Macy’s makeup consultation left her with a permanent “X” mark on her face.
On Tuesday, Judy Pleunik filed a lawsuit against Macy’s after grappling with the mark on her left cheek for over a year. According to ABC 13, Pleunik visited the Macy’s branch at Baybrook Mall in Houston, Texas, in February 2018.
She isn’t the only one unable to figure out how it happened — medical professionals also drew a blank with the bizarre m.
“It just doesn’t go away,” she told the news outlet. “My dermatologist tried to get it off, and he could not get it off. He said if she used a magic marker, makeup or an ink pen he could get it off. It went right into my skin pigment, almost like a tattoo.”
Pleunik is unhappy that she has to explain the mark to people.
"I want to figure out how to get this off my face," Pleunik told ABC 13. "It's extremely frustrating because every day when I see people, they're like, 'Why do you have an 'X' on your face?' I put makeup on, but it bleeds right through it. It's bizarre to me."
Melissa Ephron, Pleunik’s lawyer, told ABC 13 that a dermatologist recommended getting a biopsy to figure out what it is. The lawyer is determined to make sure Macy’s addresses the problem and that her client’s problem isn’t swept under the rug.
"I'm hoping for Macy's to be accountable for what happened to Judy,” Ephron told the outlet. “This is a horrible situation. She's terribly embarrassed by it.”
Ephron added: “She’s been injured by it. Her face might be scarred from this. This is a permanent mark.”
ABC 13 also accessed the court filing in which Pleunik claims that a Macy’s employee drew the “X” on her cheek. When they questioned the employee about it, the employee said she didn’t remember the “X” being there.
A spokesperson for Macy’s tells Yahoo Lifestyle that they’re unable to provide any information on this matter, since it’s an ongoing investigation. “We are committed to ensuring that all our customers and colleagues are treated with respect and dignity,” the representative says.
Pleunik, Ephron and the Harris County District Clerk’s office did not immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment.
