Woman claims the secret to a perfect roast chicken is using a $400 hair dryer
A food critic has stunned fans with her unusual way of roasting a chicken.
Helen Rosner, a food writer for the New Yorker, took to Twitter to upload a photograph of herself blow-drying a whole chicken with a $400 Dyson Supersonic hair dryer.
She captioned the bizarre snap, which soon garnered more than 1,600 likes:
Happy snow day, I am using an astonishingly expensive hair dryer to remove all moisture from a chicken to maximize skin crispiness when I roast it. pic.twitter.com/ngtzmoOSHf

Rosner posted the unusual image alongside a recipe for the roast chicken, but of course followers were more intrigued by the stage that included a hair dryer.
Here, pretty much, is the recipe. Plus: Roast the bird on a bed of rough-chopped veg to help airflow. And I prefer cast iron but it doesn’t really matter. https://t.co/pLli3OQy0w

She revealed to Allure, “For crisp skin, whether you’re cooking a chicken or a duck or a fish, you want there to be as little water moisture as possible, which is sped up by a fan. And that’s all a hair dryer really is — a handheld fan that you can pretty easily bring into the kitchen.”
But the writer isn’t the mastermind behind the unusual technique, as she credits cookbook author Marcella Hazan for coming up with the idea of using a hair dryer for meat preparation back in the 1970s. However, Rosner is the first to use the cult beauty must-have to ensure golden chicken skin every single time.
For those of us who, sadly, do not own the professional piece of hair-drying equipment, it’s important to note that the Dyson Supersonic isn’t the only tool that will do the job.
“You could use any hair dryer on the chicken — even one that doesn’t have a ‘cool’ setting, though it’ll smell a little chicken-y while you heat-style it,” Rosner explained to Allure.
She continued: “The fact that it’s way, way, way better at drying my hair than any other dryer I’ve tried is just a bonus. The fact that it helps my roast chicken be so great is a double bonus.”
So there you have it. But proceed with caution before whipping out your hair dryer for a foolproof chicken dinner.
