Woman confronts porch pirate stealing mail on video: 'She picked the wrong day and the wrong envelope to try to snatch up'
A woman in California confronted a brazen porch pirate attempting to steal her mail and uploaded the footage from her doorbell surveillance camera to Facebook, reminding her followers "someone is always watching."
Shirah Booker was at home on April 18 when she received an alert that there was a person outside of her house in Long Beach, Calif. In the surveillance video, the mail thief walks up casually to Booker's door and looks at her mailbox for a moment before she digs in and starts opening Booker's mail, not knowing that her every move was being captured on camera.
"She picked the wrong day and the wrong envelope to try to snatch up,’" Booker told KTLA.
As the woman is looking through the open mail, Booker opens the door and grabs her arm, asking, "What are you doing? Don't you ever come back to my home, now get gone."
Booker told the news outlet: "Sometimes you have to get Rice Krispy and snap crackle and pop and that's what needed to happen. You're not coming around here doing this in this neighborhood, so hopefully she go back to her little friends, stay off the Maine Avenue because that is not how we get down in Long Beach."
Booker got her mail back and called 911. No arrests have been made yet, but police encourage citizens always to call 911 and not to confront criminals themselves.
