A Woman Tricked a Man on Tinder Into Thinking They Had the Same Phone Number

I don't know how the Nobel Prizes are awarded, but consider this my official nomination for a woman named Hannah, who just advanced the field of swerving Tinder matches by convincing a man they had the same phone number.

In a deservedly viral tweet, Hannah shares three screenshots of her Tinder conversation with a man named Patrick. Patrick appears to send Hannah his number through the app, and her immediate response is, "wait wtf thats my number." He becomes convinced that he's texting himself and they legitimately share the same number when he calls himself, and is asked to type his voicemail password (which is... what happens when you call your own cell phone number).

Upon realizing this, Patrick is sold. Hannah proves herself by asking, "how could i make this shit up?" They commiserate about the random texts and calls they often get, and blame Sprint for fucking them over. It's a lovely conversation. Patrick wraps up the conversation with a message that is best read with a forlorn sigh: "I wish I could call you."

Because no one is capable of fun anymore, the replies to Hannah's tweet were filled with disbelief, and claims that Patrick was "playing dumb" to win her over. So as proof, Hannah followed up with a screenshot of a text conversation with Patrick (she must've given up the hi-jinx, and sent him her real number). She admits to messing with Patrick, who, just my opinion, texts like a dad.

This entire saga is inspiring. It's not immediately clear how Hannah pulled this off (Cosmopolitan.com has reached out for comment) but it seems relatively simple if you do as she did, and really stick to your convictions. For now, I leave you with a gif that perfectly summarizes Patrick's situation.

Cosmopolitan.com has reached out to Sprint to see if it's actually possible for two people to be assigned the same phone number. This story will be updated if/when we hear back.
