‘The world is getting unhealthier’: Mindy Grossman reveals WW’s biggest competitor and her goals for former Weight Watchers
Globally, health is “in a very bad place,” according to Mindy Grossman. And she would know — she heads up one of the most popular weight-loss programs, WW, formerly known as Weight Watchers.
Grossman took the role of president and CEO of the company in July 2017, and this past September, announced the name change. But it’s more than a name change. Grossman visited BUILD for the kickoff of Brit + Co’s five-night #CreateGood event to talk about wellness and how that relates to the brand’s transformation.
Grossman plans to take WW “from what was undeniably the best healthy weight-loss program on the planet to being a partner overall in people’s health and lives.”
Talking to Brit + Co founder and CEO Brit Morin, Grossman said, “We are in the process of transforming the business to what I call a wellness ecosystem for people.”
Last month, Grossman also revealed the company’s new tagline: Wellness That Works. In a Twitter video, they declared the brand is moving “beyond weight to wellness.”
The new WW will help members manage “what you put in your body, how you move, your mindset, your motivation and incredibly importantly, the community that you’re surrounding yourself with,” Grossman said at #CreateGood, which is “aimed to help you be the best you.”
Will competing diet programs jump on the wellness wagon? Time will only tell. But Grossman has a bigger competitor out there. “We always say our biggest competition is people thinking they can get healthy themselves,” she said. “And the world is getting unhealthier every day.”
She has faith that WW can change this, though. “I want my legacy to be that x number of years from now … we’re able to announce that we’ve changed the health trajectory of the world and that we’re going to live in a healthier world.”
