Wyoming Resort 100% Open After Early-Season Storms
Yesterday, Grand Targhee Resort, Wyoming, had exciting news: after a series of early-season storms, they successfully opened all 2600 acres of their terrain.
From the caption:
"Grand Targhee is lucky to be located on the western slope of the Teton range with a base area at 8,000 feet above sea level. Our location puts us right in the line of fire of some of the largest storms that develop over the Pacific Ocean.
In the last 2 weeks, we've had 2 major storm cycles blow in 60+ inches of snow. That precipitation allowed us to open up all 2600 acres of our terrain."
Grand Targhee, or the Ghee', as some locals call it, is something of a Wyoming sleeper resort. The ski area is only an hour away from Jackson Hole Mountain Resort—an international destination—but tends to draw less attention. I assume the locals prefer to keep it that way.
Speaking of JHMR, the resort, like the Ghee', has fared comparatively well during this funky winter. While JHMR isn't 100% yet, it's well on the way. Last weekend, the resort got more of its high alpine terrain open with the Sublette lift, which sits just below the Aerial Tram (the Aerial Tram isn't yet open for skiers).
So far, the Ghee' has picked up 125 inches of snow this season. While the skies look sunny at the resort for the foreseeable future, hopefully, more of the white stuff is coming.
