We love seeing how our favorite stars have changed over time, don’t we? Singers who remain popular over several decades face the scrutiny of their style evolution. Given that in fashion, styles tend to return, we must admit that many of them were wearing trendy clothes in the 2000s that have come back in style today.

Thalía, Paulina Rubio, Shakira, Jennifer López, Christina Aguilera and Natalia Jiménez are among the Latina performers who enjoyed worldwide success in the 2000s and continue to reign. Let’s reminisce about some looks that we might see again on a red carpet today.

Y2K is a term meaning "year 2000” or “the 2000s.” It was made popular by Gen Z, which takes some cues from those first years of the new century, but with a more modern, up-to-date and urban touch

Why did we wear skirts or dresses over pants in the 2000s? We don’t know, but it’s a trend that has come back in style. Thalía showed up in this minidress with a rhinestone-studded fringe for People en Espa?ol 's '50 Más Bellos' party in New York in 2003.

Plush Tracksuits

We found plenty of photos from the early 2000s of Jennifer Lopez wearing brightly colored tracksuits: blue, yellow, white, fuchsia... some even had her name embroidered! Juicy Culture was the brand favored by celebrities and, like JLO, they wore the pants very low and the jackets short to show off their abs.

Strappy Everything

Strappy tops and dresses could be seen at all the parties, especially in lightweight fabrics like silk or satin. In 2003, Paulina Rubio rocked this asymmetric dress with a geometric print.

Butterfly Tops

Everything about Shakira's look at the 2004 VMAs is pure Y2K: the pants with a bit of flare, belt at the hip, platform shoes... But if we have to pick just one item, we’ll go with the butterfly top, with the twisted knot on the chest. A classic!

Fisherman’s Hat

A fisherman’s hat with a dress? On the carpet? That was Natalia Jiménez paving the way for eclectic combos. Spoiler alert: It wouldn’t be the only time she rocked a bucket hat at a big event. This accessory made a strong comeback in the 90s and it’s been indispensable the last two summers.

The Complete Look!

In this image (and many others of the period), Christina Aguilera is the incarnation an outfit trend: extreme low-rise pants, denim patchwork, body chain, open top showing some lingerie and this style of cap... The "Genie in a Bottle" singer, of Ecuadorian roots, is the authentic icon of the 2000s that many are imitating today.
