Yahoo readers weigh in on what ‘feminism’ means to them


In March, we celebrate Women’s History Month by examining how far the movement for women’s rights has come and how far it still has to go, plus the varying ideas about what “progress” means to different people.

And in the midst of various woman-focused protests and conventions, not to mention the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, the word “feminism” has evolved to mean an array of different things to different people. The simplest definition, pulled straight from the dictionary, is “the advocacy of women’s rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.”

But we asked Yahoo readers from across the nation to weigh in with their own understandings of the term. To see what they said, watch the video above.
