'Yellowstone' Sets a Release Date for Its Final Run
Kevin Costner
The end is near (or actually kind of far off) for Yellowstone: Paramount Network has announced that its hit Western will air its final run in November 2024. That's a full year later than initially planned, but the timeframe makes sense given the production delays that resulted from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the latter of which is still ongoing.
The first half of the show's fifth and final season ended with Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) calling for his father’s impeachment, and John Dutton (Kevin Costner) seemingly gearing up to have his son killed. That's quite the cliffhanger to leave viewers on for yet another 365-plus days, but Yellowstone fans are nothing if not resilient.

As for whether the long wait means more time for Costner and showrunner Taylor Sheridan to patch things up and surprise fans with a multi-episode sendoff for Dutton, don't count on it. Multiple reports have already confirmed that Costner is done shooting the show for good and Costner himself said in a court proceeding for his divorce that Paramount “walked away” from negotiations. “We tried to negotiate, they offered me less money than previous seasons [and] there were issues with the creative,” he said.
Sheridan previously said that while he was ultimately "disappointed" in Costner's abrupt exit, he still respects the actor tremendously. He also claimed that Costner's ouster didn't change the character trajectory for John Dutton in the series.
"It truncates the closure of his character," Sheridan said. "It doesn't alter it, but it truncates it."

In addition to announcing the timeframe for Yellowstone's final run, Paramount Network revealed that two more spinoffs are in the works, including a present-day story (working title: 2024) and another prequel, 1944. Meantime, Costner will unveil his epic Western Horizon in the summer of 2024.
