Yes, This House Has Its Very Own Rock-Climbing Wall
Do you have fond memories of the home you grew up in? Even if you had the most idyllic childhood, you’ll wish you grew up in this house instead. Because: It has an indoor rock-climbing wall. And a sofa that doubles as a rock wall landing pad. And-for the adults-a wine cellar-turned-craft room. The mastermind behind this ultimate family home in San Francisco is West Coast-based designer Regan Baker and her eponymous firm.
In 2014, Baker designed an exceptionally playful showcase room with a tent that could extend the entire length of the room-but little did she know that her most playful project was yet to come. When a family of five tapped Baker to design the interiors of their newly renovated home in the Pacific Heights neighborhood, she delivered on a concept that is at once adult- and kid-friendly, California cool (the parents used to be surfers) and fun.
The floor-to-ceiling rock wall reaches eight-and-a-half feet tall, and the climbing holds can be rearranged to increase or decrease the difficulty level. Next to the rock wall, the sofa is a sectional that can be disassembled so that the kids can jump on it and use it as a landing pad-every kid’s dream!
In the rest of the house, Baker used a more neutral color palette and incorporated reupholstered heirloom pieces (like the family room sofa in a Perennials fabric) with new furniture as well as artisanal pieces from India and Istanbul.
