Yikes: Kanye West’s Last Concert Is Being Compared to Fyre Festival
Kanye West performed his new music in Louisiana last night, drawing a crowd of thousands.
Unfortunately for attendees, there were many problems with the event, and it's now being compared to the infamous disaster that was Fyre Festival.
Gather round friends, cause we need to discuss Brunchella, aka #YeezyFyreFest, aka the craziness that happened at the Kanye West concert on Friday night. As you may know, Kanye recently released his new album Jesus Is King, and has been busy promoting it by making jokes about Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries' marriage and doing Airpool Karaoke with James Corden (like Carpool Karaoke but in a plane). He's also been doing special concerts, and Kanye went to Baton Rouge on Friday to perform an outdoor service, which is where things went so off the rails that people are comparing the concert to the Fyre Festival.
While admission to the concert was free, attendees had the option of getting food before the performance. Organizers offered a $55 brunch, which is already suspicious because, according to brproud, doors opened at 5pm—well beyond brunch time if you ask me! Some of those who did opt for the Brunchella experience were outraged at the quality and quantity of the food offered (which def has some Fyre Fest vibes), and asked for their money back:
Some attendees who were in the VIP section of the concert were also disappointed to find that it was a hill with a flimsy "VIP" sign on it that apparently wasn't even close to the stage. One concert-goer complained on Twitter, "Like they really had us hanging out on a hill away from the stage, promised we'd be ushered in later, only to hit us with 'nope'...They just need to process refunds quickly."
And to make matters worse, Kanye was apparently late to the concert, leaving thousands of disgruntled people waiting. One person tweeted, "Kanye West concert in Baton Rouge was supposed to start at 6. It’s now 730 and STILL, no Kanye. Same playlist still on repeat. Slowly losing sanity. "
To be fair, Kanye had nothing to do with the food, and it seems like he also had no involvement with the VIP section, so he really can't be blamed! In fact, a source told Daily Mail that Kanye "was not paid for his performance, and even covered his own travel expenses to attend and spread the Gospel." Still, the good people of Twitter are obviously having a field day:
So let this be a warning to all: Brunch after 4pm is never a good idea!!
