YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge offering camps filled with summertime fun

(WFXR)– The YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge is offering summer camps to allow children to adventure, explore, and discover throughout locations in the Roanoke Valley.

YMCA camps are a great way for kids to keep their minds and bodies active, as summer can limit access to recreational and educational activities that help them grow, learn, and thrive during out-of-school time. This year’s camp theme is International Explorers where campers can learn about different countries, cultures, and history through stories, food, art, and STEM activities.

Camps are divided by different age groups and can be at different locations. Here is a list of camps the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge is offering:

  • Camp Kirk at the Kirk YMCA in Roanoke:

    • Kinder Camp (ages 3 to rising Kindergarten)- Kirk Family YMCA

    • Youth Camp (Ages 5 to 12) James Madison Middle School

  • Camp Salem:

    • Kinder Camp (Ages 3 to rising Kindergarten)- Salem Family YMCA

    • Youth Camp (Ages 5 to 12)- West Salem Elementary/Salem YMCA

  • Camp BOCO

    • Youth Camp (ages 5-12) Greenfield Elementary

  • Camp Rockbridge

    • Youth Camp (ages 5-12) Central Elementary

The YMCA is also offering two specialty camps at the YMCA Express in Roanoke, focused on more specific aspects of summer camp fun!

Free Beacons Summer Camp: The YMCA Express is combining fun and learning in this camp for middle schoolers for free. The Beacons Summer Camp has a lot to offer, from STEM to cooking to outdoor adventures.

Summer Cooking Camp: This eight-week camp at the YMCA Express at Gainsboro Kitchen will explore a different type of food each week and campers will be able to create their own masterpiece. Foods will range from themes like Garden Week, Decadent Desserts, Breakfast Favorites, and more!
