Mandy Moore and her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, recently moved into a new home in Pasadena, California, after spending the past year remodeling it, and it’s just as beautiful as their former mid-century modern home. And although they’re in a new location and in a new place, Moore and interior designer Sarah Sherman Samuel stayed true to Moore’s modern eclectic aesthetic.

Not only did Moore bring a new version of her beloved checkerboard rug into her new living room, but she also purchased another jewel-toned couch — and this one may be my favorite one yet.

Moore just gave her followers a peek inside the finished product in a recent Instagram post in which she’s posing for maternity pics ahead of welcoming her third child. In the pic, she’s sitting on the arm of a gorgeous plum-colored velvet couch (which kind of looks just like Behr’s 2025 Color Of The Year, don’t you think?).

It’s now crystal clear that Moore has a thing for jewel-toned velvet couches. In her old home, she had the most beautiful ochre-colored built-in sofa, also in velvet, that added so much drama to the small space it was tucked into. And in her living room, she had two sapphire velvet armchairs and a pea green velvet sofa.

Moore actually purchased her plum-colored couch before making the move, as shown in an Instagram post from January 2024, and she bought it directly from Samuel’s SSS Atelier. It’s the Alba Sofa, which retails for just under $14,000, and it was customized with that luscious plum upholstery.

Wayfair sells a purple-colored couch that is a bit more punchy than Moore’s, but the velvet and the color make a similar statement.

Will Mandy Moore ever quit jewel-toned couches? Probably not, and why should she? She keeps knocking it out of the park every time she upgrades.
