‘You've Got Mail’ Is Coming to Amazon Prime Video
One of our favorite movies of all time is coming to Amazon Prime Video in September, and we cannot wait. As exciting as a new email in our inbox or a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils, You’ve Got Mail is a rom-com of legendary proportions. The film, which was penned by Nora and Delia Ephron and stars Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, was released in 1998. While the technology that is so new and fresh in the film now seems dated—dial-up modems, anyone?—the film still feels timeless. It’s a case of mistaken identities, pride and prejudice and battling bookstores, and romance in spite of it all.
It’s a film that we’ve seen so many times we’ve lost count. No number of viewings is ever enough, though, which is why we’re excited that You’ve Got Mail will soon be just a click away. Co-writer Nora Ephron also directed the flick, and so many of its scenes have emblazoned themselves in our memories. They have become touchstones of New York City, fall (and spring, for that matter!), and bookstores. It’s also incredibly quotable. Truly, You’ve Got Mail has a quote for every occasion. At a buffet? Channel Kathleen Kelly: "You're taking all the caviar? That caviar is a garnish!” Or, if you’re feeling sentimental, Joe Fox says, “Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.”
Then there’s always Joe Fox on the music of Joni Mitchell: “It must be a metaphor for something, but I don’t know what it is.” And don’t forget the soundtrack! There are so many reasons to love this movie, which is why it has become a rom-com classic. You’ll soon be able to find it on Amazon Prime Video—it hits the platform on September 30, 2019.
