Fiber is one of those things I'm always trying to get. It helps to stabilize blood sugar, lowers cholesterol, and can minimize tummy bloat.
If you're gluten-free like I am or don't eat a ton of legumes, it can be difficult to get the recommended 25 grams (men should aim for 30 to 38 grams), which is why I'm really into the bars from BelliWelli.
Along with being as deliciously chewy as a cookie, they have up to 4 grams of fiber, a probiotic, and clean ingredients that are easy to digest. They're also low in calories and sugar, making them a great snack or dessert.
What makes BelliWelli probiotic bars special?
Lots of people have sensitive stomachs. I, for example, don't do great with sugar, wheat, or dairy, which makes eating things like cookies, birthday cake, and basically anything desserty a no-no.
According to the American Gastroenterological Association, up to 70 million Americans suffer from a gastrointestinal (GI) disease, which can result in embarrassing symptoms like gas, diarrhea, bloating, or constipation. Needless to say, it can make navigating the food world daunting.
Just ask CEO of BelliWelli, Katie Wilson. She was diagnosed with IBS in 2016, and knows firsthand how difficult it is dealing with digestive issues. She explains further in an interview with Fitt Insider:
"After being diagnosed with IBS, I discovered Facebook groups dedicated to similar problems that I had — IBS, bloating, food intolerances, and more. But there weren’t any solutions on grocery store shelves that helped combat this sometimes-crippling illness."
It was her longing for a sweet and comforting food classic that set BelliWelli in motion.
"When things got low, I found myself complaining to my husband, just wanting to eat one single chocolate chip cookie. Forever an optimist, my husband got to work, enlisting the help of a food scientist and dietitian to create a gut-healthy chocolate chip cookie that I could safely enjoy. After many batches, we had our first cookie bar."
Unlike other snack bars, BelliWelli uses healthy ingredients like chia seeds, almond butter, and oats. They're certified low FOODMAP, dairy and gluten-free, and vegan. They also have the probiotic Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086, which aids the digestion of proteins and carbohydrates.
If you're always forgetting to take your daily probiotic, the yummy treats may make it easier to remember.
The thing I like the most about BelliWelli is their taste and nutritional content. I'm somewhat of a snack bar/protein bar/health bar connoisseur, and I can't tell you how many brands — that will remain nameless — market themselves as healthy but are loaded with sketchy ingredients and sugar. Like, more than 20 grams in some of them — gross!
BelliWelli bars use less than 10 grams of sugar, and all come from better-for-you sources like brown rice syrup. They don't use sugar alcohol, and there's even apple cider vinegar in them for additional digestive health.
Another reason to try BelliWelli bars?
They taste good. Like, really good. We're talking chewy, moist, and with the perfect amount of sweetness to kick the hankering for something junky in the tush.
Like I said, I'm sort of an expert when it comes to snack bars, so I know that even some of the best have that quintessential "healthy" taste your mouth has to acquire a liking for. Not the case with these. They're just yummy, and you can have them for breakfast, an afternoon snack, or late night when you need a treat.
Here are three of my favorite flavors you need to try:
BelliWelli Cinnamon Swirl Snack Bar
Buy from Amazon, $26.96 for box of 8
Why we like it:
Tastes like a healthy cinnamon bun
Creamy chip chunks!
Here's the thing, I don't even like cinnamon buns but I love these! It's not only the soft texture that makes my mouth sing, but the creamy hunks of chips throughout the bar that I adore. One bar is only 190 calories, and it really hits the spot with that afternoon cup of coffee. With ingredients that include oat bran, oats, and almond butter, you know it's not going to spike your blood sugar like a real cinnamon roll would, and it also won't leave your stomach in knots.
Promising review: "I am not exaggerating when I say that I am obsessed with these! I eat one almost everyday, and will always have an extra in my purse! I have a lot of stomach issues, so I love that these are easy on my tummy, along with being really delicious."
BelliWelli Strawberry Shortcake Snack Bar
Buy from Amazon, $26.88 for box of 8
Why we like it:
Real strawberry crumbles
No weird aftertaste
In my experience, fruit-based snack bars can be risky. They're generally loaded with sugar and some sketchy flavoring to mimic the fruit instead of the real McCoy. Fortunately, that's not the case with the Strawberry Shortcake snack bar from BelliWelli. Personally, I prefer them to the actual cake, which I've always found a bit saccharine. The bars are soft but still hearty, thanks to the oats and nut butter. There are real bits of strawberry in them too, and creamy chips made from cocoa butter.
Promising review: "They definitely taste indulgent, it’s hard to believe they’re actually good for you. They’re a great snack to have in hand for my sweet tooth!"
BelliWelli Chocolate Chip Snack Bars
Buy from Amazon, $26.96 for box of 8
Why we like it:
Perfect for chocolate lovers
Soft baked, chewy texture
Even if you don't have digestive problems, you'll want to try these Chocolate Chip cookie inspired snack bars. They're simply decadent with real chocolate chips and a hint of chocolate liquor. They pull apart like cookies fresh from the oven, have a scrumptious smell, and are the perfect way to curve pesky cravings. Unlike traditional cookies, they're not loaded with calories, sugar, and fat, plus your tummy will like the dose of probiotics.
Promising review: "I love these bars! Chocolate chip is my favorite flavor. They're literally so delicious! It doesn’t hurt my stomach at all, and I can’t recommend it more!"
