The drama always unfolds on Instagram, doesn't it?

Here's the latest fans are frothing about, involving Zac Efron and Selena Gomez. Earlier this week Efron posted a thirst trap disguised as a birthday post dedicated to his brother. In it, they're both very shirtless, in water, and very very muscly. But what really riled up fans on Twitter is that he quietly followed Selena Gomez on the platform this morning.

She doesn't follow him back at this point, and all of this could mean nothing. But clearly fans are shipping this couple.

Gomez and Efron have worked together before; they co-starred Neighbors 2. In 2016, Efron even talked about how great Gomez was during an interview with Entertainment Tonight for that film. "She's awesome," he said. "She's super talented." He cracked up when Seth Rogen described her as tiny. The full exchange can be seen at the 1:28 mark:

Gomez is famously guarded about her social media presence. She has talked about how she doesn't have Instagram on her phone or direct access to her account for her mental health.

“I don’t have my password for Instagram," she told ELLE in her October issue interview. "I have no apps on my phone, no photo editing apps. I have Peak, a brain game. The reason why is, it’s not real to me,” she acontinued. “I know my voice is very prominent, but I’m not careless with it. I’m selective. As far as my personal life, someone sees me having a glass of wine? I could give two shits. I’m not trying to hide. That’s my life. I’m living it the way I want to live it. But it’s about making a conscious effort-if I can have a moment to be with my friends, I’ll take that time. So I don’t have any of it. I had to make that decision."
