Zac Efron Speaks Out About Contracting Life-Threatening Illness

Zac Efron is speaking out about his major health scare shortly before the holidays. To update ya, Zac was in Papua New Guinea filming his upcoming documentary series Killing Zac Efron when he reportedly contracted a “form of -typhoid or similar bacterial -infection.”

According to The Sunday Telegraph (via The Daily Mail), Zac took a “life-or-death flight” to Brisbane, Australia with medical professionals, where he was admitted to St. Andrews War Memorial Hospital in "a stable condition.”

The actor spoke out about the incident on Twitter, saying "Very thankful to everyone who has reached out. I did get sick in Papua New Guinea but I bounced back quick and finished an amazing 3 weeks in P.N.G.I’m home for the holidays with my friends and family. Thanks for all the love and concern, see you in 2020!"

Zac was reportedly hospitalized for several days and flew home to the United States on Christmas Eve once he was given a green light by doctors. Unclear if this incident will make it into his documentary, which is about him going deep in the jungle with nothing but a guide and some survival gear.

“I tend to thrive under extreme circumstances and seek out opportunities that challenge me on every level,” Zac said in a statement about his show. “I am excited to explore any uncharted territory and discover what unexpected adventure awaits.”
