Zara Tindall's royal baby announcement criticized for being 'sexist' — here's why
The latest royal family birth announcement has caused something of a stir.
On June 18, Zara Tindall, granddaughter of the queen and daughter of Princess Anne, gave birth to a baby girl. This is her second child with her husband, Mike Tindall, with whom she also has a 4-year-old daughter, Mia.
Palace officials confirmed the happy news via a statement released on Twitter, but some people weren’t happy about the language used in the announcement, which has been accused of being out-dated and “sexist.”

Mrs Michael Tindall was safely delivered of a baby girl on 18th June, at Stroud Maternity Unit. Mr Tindall was present at the birth. The weight of the baby was 9lbs 3oz.

The birth announcement references the royal, an equestrian who won a silver medal in the 2012 Olympics, by her married name, Mrs. Michael Tindall. Some felt it was too formal and “archaic,” particularly in light of her own accomplishments and prestige.

Despite the backlash, many other royalists also used the opportunity to offer their congratulations to the couple on their newborn.
The new addition, who is Queen Elizabeth’s seventh great-grandchild, is yet to be named but an announcement will be made “in due course.”
She is the second new addition to the royal family this year after the birth of her second cousin, Prince Louis, on April 23.
