Zo? Kravitz’s Best Beauty Advice Came From Her Mom, Lisa Bonet
Everyone makes beauty missteps, but some are fortunate to have walking, living, breathing goddesses on hand to dispense advice.
Such is the case with Zo? Kravitz, the daughter of actress Lisa Bonet and musician Lenny Kravitz. Her mom taught her one very valuable grooming lesson: “Not to pluck my eyebrows,” says Kravitz. “I plucked them in high school and left them alone after that.”
The New Yorker is having a major moment. She’s the face of YSL Beauty, and she sat front row at the brand’s Paris Fashion Week show.
Yes, being affiliated with such a luxe fashion house has its perks. “They’ve been very, very generous. And it’s part of my job to know the products. I use them myself. It’s a nice responsibility,” Kravitz tells Yahoo Style. “It’s soooooo hard to be me.”
Kravitz seems to be everywhere — because she is. She’s the lead singer of the band Lolawolf. If you haven’t heard of them, you should. She’s one of the stars of HBO’s very dramatic miniseries Big Little Lies, opposite Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. And she’s in the bachelorette weekend comedy Rough Night, costarring Scarlett Johansson, out in June.
Kravitz calls herself “a woman’s woman. Absolutely. When a woman supports another woman, magic happens.”
For Kravitz, it’s fun playing up her feminine side. In terms of makeup, she keeps things simple. She swears by the YSL Couture Brow, Touche éclat highlighter, and the brand’s Effet Faux Cils Liquid Eyeliner in black. For her face, she’s a fan of the luxe skin-care line Retrouvé, which she’s been using for six months. Another favorite is Simply Divine Botanicals. “I have really sensitive skin. You should be able to eat it if you put it on your skin,” she says.
Her look, says Kravitz, is ever-changing. The blond braids she’s been sporting are a holdover from the film Viena and the Fantomes that she shot last year. Her style, too, ebbs and flows and right now centers around oversized button-down shirts and baggy pants.
“It’s always changing. I do like to be comfortable. I try to wear things that are comfortable and soft. Everything should be soft. I’m inspired by films and images,” says Kravitz, who says she swooned over the dress she wore to the YSL party in Paris because it was “dope and very cool. It was timeless.”
One film inspiration that didn’t quite work for her: the movie Girl, Interrupted. Angelina Jolie’s tresses in the 1999 film led to a 2011 haircut that Kravitz now regrets.
“I had a short situation with bangs years ago. I had really short bangs, baby bangs. No one should ever do that,” she says.
