A "Zombieland" Sequel Is Happening, And With All The OG Cast Returning!
After almost 10 years, a Zombieland sequel is happening! You might even say that it's... back from the dead? OK come on, work with me here.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zombieland 2 will reunite the cast of the original 2009 hit – including Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin. The OG movie's director Ruben Fleischer is also returning, as too are writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (who, in recent years, have penned the massively successful Deadpool franchise).
Rumors of a sequel have been floating around Hollywood for years - the less said about the TV show, the better - but Zombieland 2 seemed like a possibly-infected fever dream for the most part, until a new logo for the sequel was released at CinemaCon earlier this year (even though a source now claims the film is titled Zombieland, Too).
And now Sony has now locked in Zombieland 2 for filming at the beginning of 2019, and it will be released in October 2019, just in time for the original's 10-year anniversary. Zombieland, which saw four strangers meet and bond in an apocalyptic wasteland, was a major hit with critics and quickly gained cult status.
Colombia Pictures president Sanford Panitch said in a statement: "This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time – and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse, and Abigail. These are some of the most in-demand actors and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters."
