3D Tree Projections Will Leaf You Speechless
Talk about hiding in plain sight. This collection of projection art on the trees lining various city streets fits in so seamlessly with the natural surroundings, it creates a slightly jarring sensation. Clément Briend, the French photographer behind this project, intentionally curated the images he chose to exhibit as homage to the Cambodian culture, such as the Buddha heads. The photographs were staged in both Cambodia and the photographer’s native France. Briend very poetically explains that “such nocturnal visions allow us to grasp the way magic profoundly influences how Cambodian people perceive the world.” The decision to display these projections in public spaces stemmed from his desire to mimic the manner in which advertisements take up so much of the visual real estate people are exposed to on a daily basis. A little homemade resourcefulness on Briend’s part allowed him to use a Speedlite flash and an old camera for a flash projector. The fleeting nature of these projections and the photographs that capture them were meant to bridge reality and how one could imagine reality to be.
