Turn Cabinets Into Unexpected Art

Sarah Essex
Updated

Here is the artistic touch you’ve been looking for - without having to be a real artist.  Take a regular cabinet and give it a face lift by covering it with a real painting.  There is no better way to appreciate art than by really living with it and having a good reason to touch it on daily basis.  Go for it.

Materials:

  • Cabinet

  • Painted Canvas

  • Wood Glue

Tools:

  1. Utility knife

  2. Straight edge

Instructions:

  1. Lay your cabinet on its back, make sure it is clean

  2. Remove any frame or staples from your painting and lay on top of cabinet area you want to cover

  3. Using the straight edge, trim your canvas to fit perfectly over the area to cover

  4. Flip your canvas over and paint the back with wood glue so that the entire surface is covered

  5. Apply a light covering of glue onto the cabinet itself as well

  6. Place the canvas on the area and smooth out from the middle to the edges

  7. Continue using your hands to smooth the canvas out and make sure that all air bubbles are gone- it is important to have total contact between the canvas and the cabinet

Hint:

You probably don’t want to use an expensive painting since you’ll be trimming it down to size.
