George Clooney Reveals his Wife's Crafty Side at Golden Globes

George Clooney’s line “I am so proud to be your husband” might have been the most romantic moment of last night’s Golden Globe ceremony. But to DIYers, his most endearing compliment was when he gushed about Amal Clooney, “She’s very handy.”

His crafty comment came when he was asked on the red carpet about her white gloves. Time Magazine caught him joking, “She sewed them this morning.”

The DIY moments at the event did not stop there. When Keira Knightley commented that it took 30 people one week to craft her dress any DIYer worth his or her salt was imaging how the butterflies and feathers were attached. Not to mention the techniques that created Knightley’s tiered collar and ruffled trim. The butterfly wristband had all crafters clamoring to rush out to their local hobby shop and start making their own.

But it was Melissa McCarthy who took home the DIY crafter of the night award. She ignored the temptation of haute couture and instead created a look from things she found in her own closet.

While speaking to E!’s Giuliana Rancic the 44-year-old actress described her look. “It’s kind of a chop shop from my closet,” she said. “I like a weird project.”

One can imagine that she must have tailored the thick collar and large cuffs on her pale pink blouse. The black high waisted ruffled skirt surely had a DIY hand involved. The pièce de résistance was the ritzy tie around her neck which was flashy enough to be a bedazzler’s dream.
