Love is in the Air: How Scent Affects Attraction

Heather ChaEditor
Updated

Love is in the air…literally! Physical appearance, personality, and common interests are the immediate factors that come into mind when one would list what plays into attraction.

An abstract, intangible alchemy is often given credit for bringing two people together. The equation may yet be more scientific than we would expect. Research studies have shown that scents play a major role in attraction.

Now, we don’t mean that in the way garlic-laden breath would drive away potential suitors.  Scientists have found that body odor and pheromones are the invisible force that makes you attracted to someone else, and vice versa.  People are specifically drawn to the chemical scents given off by a person that has a different genetic makeup from their own.
