Skip Popcorn, Try These Garlands

Stringing up pop corn to decorate at the holidays has been around forever and beloved by so many of us.  So, what if we take it a step higher and add some twists to make it all seem new again?  Its so easy and fun to put a personal touch on an old favorite.  You can never be too creative, and there is no wrong way to do it, so get your materials out and get stringing!

Materials for Marshmallow String:

?   Marshmallows in various sizes

?   Fishing line

?   Piece of Tinsel Garland

Tools:

?   Scissors

Instructions:

1.     Cut the fishing line to the desired finished length.

2.     string marshmallows by snipping a small cut to the center of the marshmallow and then pinching it on to the fishing line (the gooey center acts as a glue to hold it together again).

3.     Repeat varying all the sizes of marshmallows.

4.     Snip1 pieces of tinsel garland and crimp them onto the fishing line at 1 intervals between marshmallows.

Hint:

You can tie a piece of ribbon to both of the ends to then hang your string

Materials for Candy and Bows String:

?   Candy (with holes is easier)

?   Red Plastic Shoelace string

?   Ribbons

Tools:

?   Scissors 

Instructions:

1.     Cut a piece of red plastic shoelace string to desired length.

2.     String on pieces of candy, tie a loop around them so they dont slide, or tie knots on either end of each piece- leave plenty of room between each piece of candy so the red lace is apparent.

3.     Cut 5 pieces of ribbon and tie on the string between candies at intervals.

Materials for Peanut, Cranberry, and Straws Strings:

?   Colored twine

?   Whole peanuts in the shell

?   Cranberries

?   Paper Straws in Red and White

Tools:

?   Scissors

?   Embroidery needle

Instructions:

1.     Cut twine to desired length.

2.     Thread the twine into the embroidery needle.

3.     Cut straws to 2-3 pieces.

4.     String all three elements in a repeated pattern (i.e. Straw piece, 2 cranberries, 2 peanuts, repeat).
