Ben Affleck is in Toronto. The big question is: What is the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star doing in Canada’s largest city?
Option one: Maybe he’s there to taunt local baseball fans as his hometown Boston Red Sox play the Blue Jays?
Option two: Affleck, who is our new Batman, is there to film scenes for Suicide Squad, the upcoming DC Comics-Warner Bros. movie that features a murderers’ row of comic-book villains. There’s been much speculation about Batman’s appearance in Squad, and the rumors now seem to have more ammo: The actor was photographed Monday wearing a Bruce Wayne-style power suit on the Toronto set of director David Ayer’s film, which recently began production.

Suicide Squad, which is due out in August 2016, will momentarily shift the fledgling DC movie universe’s focus from its biggest superheroes to some of its most vicious villains, who are pressed into government service as a Dirty Dozen-style team. Jared Leto will play marquee maniac the Joker (with a Hot Topic-esque look that inspired some mixed reactions). Other major players in the lineup: Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress. Joel Kinnamen and Viola Davis will play Rick Flag and Amanda Waller, respectively, the special-ops soldier and government agent charged with turning these criminals into warriors for the greater good.

Both the Joker and Harley Quinn are two big Batman rivals, so it makes sense that the Dark Knight would appear in Squad — especially because DC has been trying to create more continuity in their upcoming films in the vein of the Marvel movie universe. Does this mean we’ll also be seeing an appearance from Jesse Eisenberg, who plays Superman nemesis Lex Luthor in Batman v. Superman?
Paparazzi photos aside, Ayer himself has actually been the main source of Squad news and pics so far, tweeting frequent photos of pre-production, table reads, and Leto’s morphing Joker look to excite fans who have been speculating about every single detail of the still-unknown plot. And Ayer’s not the only offering up teases: Leto posted a selfie to his Instagram page yesterday showing off his Superman T-shirt and ridiculously ripped torso.
