'Moana' Trailer Sends Bickering Heroes Out to Sea, Into the 'Realm of Monsters'
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been hyping his first animated Disney endeavor, Moana, for months now, from Instagramming behind-the-scenes photos to crooning other princess-y hits in interviews. This morning on ABC’s Good Morning America, he took the wraps off a new trailer (watch it above), which reveals even more details about the upcoming South Pacific-set adventure.

In Moana, Johnson will voice shape-shifting demi-god Maui, who’s convinced by brave young girl Moana to set sail on an epic quest to save their region from a fiery apocalyptic threat. While that premise has been well-established by the film’s prior promos, this extended look reveals that Maui isn’t the story’s only super-powered hero, as Moana seems to have a magically close relationship with the (sentient) ocean. It also indicates that the duo, when not bickering — alongside a seriously crazy looking chicken — will venture not only across the sea, but also into the “realm of monsters,” which exists at the bottom of a very, very deep pit. Oh, and there will be cute-and-cuddly villains and at least one dart heading straight into Maui’s derriere.

Featuring songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina, and directed by Ron Clements and John Musker (who previously helmed The Little Mermaid and Aladdin), Moana has all the makings of a box-office juggernaut when it races into theaters on Nov. 23.
