Brie Larson's Caught Up in a Chaotic Shootout in Wild 'Free Fire' Red-Band Trailer (NSFW)

Ben Wheatley made a splash earlier this year with High-Rise, a dystopian satire (based on the 1975 novel by J.G. Ballard) starring Tom Hiddleston as a doctor in an apartment complex that spirals into socio-economic warfare. To follow up that film’s unique blast of mayhem, the British director has come back with Free Fire, which has unleashed its first red-band trailer (watch it above) just as glowing reviews begin to spill out of the Toronto International Film Festival.

From an original screenplay of firearm-fueled repartee co-written by Amy Jump, Wheatley’s latest begins in a warehouse with an illegal weapons deal facilitated by Brie Larson’s go-between. When the transaction goes sour, the guns come out and the bullets begin to fly from all directions, since everyone present has at least one piece at their disposal. That’s the entire set-up of Free Fire, which will deliver a heavy dose of banter amidst an enormous dose of gunfire. With a cast that also includes Sharlto Copley, Armie Hammer, and Cillian Murphy, it seems primed to deliver on its promise of non-stop action of a distinctly outrageous, comedic sort — as well as to further solidify Oscar winner (and future Captain Marvel star) Brie Larson’s fanboy cred.

While Free Fire doesn’t yet have a U.S. release date, distributor A24 is aiming to launch the film into theaters next year.
