Cher's 'Clueless' Debate Speech Performed by Bradley Cooper, Seth Rogen & Jake Gyllenhaal
Even if she didn’t know how to pronounce “Haitians,” Cher (played by Alicia Silverstone) mounted a passionate argument for the U.S. accepting refugees in the 1995 comedy classic Clueless. Now, just in time for debate season, actors Bradley Cooper, Seth Rogen, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Paul Dano offer their own dramatic interpretations of Cher’s speech. (Sadly, none of them chose to get into character by putting on a yellow plaid kilt.) Watch the video — part of W Magazine’s “Casting Call” series —above.
Though Gyllenhaal says he actually talks like Cher, it’s Rogen who best manages to channel the enthusiasm of Silverstone’s beloved character. Dano offers a super-serious interpretation of the speech’s ridiculous garden-party metaphor, while Cooper runs through it at breakneck speed. In conclusion: It does not say RSVP on the Statue of Liberty.
