Chewbacca Mom Meets J.J. Abrams, Gets Taste of Late Night Fame
It’s been less than a week since Candace Payne, a.k.a. Chewbacca Mom, posted a Facebook video of herself laughing hysterically while trying on a Chewbacca mask that makes Wookiee noises, but Payne has quickly turned into a major celebrity.
How major? She showed up on The Late, Late Show With James Corden Monday night and did a (non-karaoke) car pool segment with the host and the Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams. (Watch above.) Then she sat for an interview during which Corden read a letter from Peter Mayhew, the actual Chewbacca, who invited Payne and her family to meet him at the Dallas Fan Expo in June. Naturally the exuberant Payne reacted to this news with uncontainable joy and infectious laughter.
Given both Corden’s and Payne’s tendency to burst into guffaws and giggles, doesn’t it seem like they’re almost silly soulmates in some way? Also: How long do you think it will take before Payne is offered her own talk show, or at the very least, a book deal? I give it until the end of this week at the latest.
