Cirque du Soleil Teases 'Avatar' Show in New Trailer
Given James Cameron’s interest in both Avatar and Cirque du Soleil, we’re wondering why it took so long for this to happen. On Monday, Cirque debuted a teaser for Toruk – The First Flight, a show based on Cameron’s blockbuster film that is set to debut in November ahead of his forthcoming trilogy of Avatar sequels.
Cameron, who has been busy with his Avatar sequels in New Zealand, also produced 2012’s 3D Cirque movie, Worlds Away, and offered creative guidance for the upcoming acrobatic show based on the world he created for the 2009 smash hit.
After a stint of preview shows, Toruk will premiere in Montreal on Dec. 21 and then embark on an arena tour of North America. The show is set 1,000 years before the events depicted in the original movie and revolves around a mighty red and orange predator named Toruk that rules the Pandoran sky.
“Over the years, I have discovered the extraordinary talents and imaginations of both the artists and the creative forces behind Cirque du Soleil,” Cameron said last spring in a statement. “I know we share the common goal of bringing audiences to another level of entertainment experiences. I look forward to doing just that on this project.”
