'Deadpool' Wants to Be Your Valentine in New TV Spot
Valentine’s Day weekend may not feel like the natural release date for a movie as bloodily unsentimental as Deadpool, but in his latest TV spot, the Merc with a Mouth wants you to know you have it all wrong. “This is actually — lucky you — a love story,” says Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), once again seductively stretched out, rose in hand, in his best Burt Reynolds impression (watch above).
Think of it as another effort to attract the ladies to the cheeky Marvel antihero, one day after Reynolds live-tweeted the heavily female-skewed reality show, The Bachelor. But that would be assuming women don’t watch superhero movies, and they do.
Either way, Deadpool is not lying when he says his big-screen outing has a heavy romantic bent. One key subplot involves his relationship with Vanessa Carlysle (Morena Baccarin), a prostitute who will eventually become the throat-chopping mutant Copycat. Baccarin told us on the film’s set that the movie will feature eight years worth of whoopee in “this really funny sex montage.” So yeah, we were sold months ago.
Deadpool opens Feb. 12.
