Good News! Arnold Schwarzenegger Not Actually Going to Be Naked for 'Terminator: Genisys'
Arnold Schwarzenegger fully-clothed in 1984’s The Terminator
After sitting out the disastrous third sequel that was released in 2009, Arnold Schwarzenegger is returning to the Terminator franchise that helped make him a superstar in 1984.
And in case you’re wondering, yes, you’re gonna see him naked again. Well, kind of, anyway.
The new issue of Entertainment Weekly reveals that Terminator: Genisys, the new reboot/sequel directed by Thor helmer Alan Taylor, begins in 2029, but will at some points revisit the first movie’s storyline. James Cameron’s original, of course, involved a young Sarah Connor being hunted down by the T-800 killing machine back in 1984. This time around, though, the ‘bot will actually be a father figure to Sarah (played here by Emilia Clarke), one of several significant tweaks in this “alternate timeline” continuation meant to satisfy old fans and give the story room to expand on its own.
One memorable moment of the original movie that they’re keeping, of course, is the scene where the T-800 plops down in Griffith’s Observatory in LA wearing nothing but his jacked up muscles. While Schwarzenegger still does many of his own stunts, at 67, he’s going to be sitting out the nude scene this time around.
Here’s the amazing part: After years of portraying a robot, a robot of sorts will be used to portray him.
Advances in nudist technology has led the special effects team on Genisys to create something they’ve dubbed a “synthespian” (or, a synthetic thespian), by employing a body double and combining digital scans of Schwarz-enegger’s face, circa both 1984 and today. You can see video of the original magic moment below.
Terminator: Genisys, which also stars Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, and Matt Smith, hits theaters on July 1, 2015.
