J.K. Rowling Defends Black Hermione Casting in ‘Harry Potter’ Sequel Play

If anyone has a problem with a black actress playing Hermione in the upcoming West End play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” J.K. Rowling wants them to know that they read all of her books wrong.

“White skin was never specified,” the author tweeted on Monday in response to those wondering why Noma Dumezweni was cast to play the grown-up version of a character previously portrayed by white actress Emma Watson in Warner Bros.’ blockbuster franchise.

Matthew Lewis, the actor who played Hogwarts student Neville in the films, also addressed any concerns from fans.
