'Patriots Day' Featurette: Mark Wahlberg, Peter Berg, and More on 'Getting It Right' in Boston Marathon Bombing Drama
Deepwater Horizon from director Peter Berg and starring Mark Wahlberg is still playing in theaters, but their next collaboration isn’t far behind. Patriots Day, a dramatic re-telling of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, is a ripped-from-the-recent-headlines story that remains fresh in many people’s minds. As a new featurette debuting exclusively at Yahoo Movies (watch it above) makes clear, the filmmakers are doing everything they can to remain as faithful as possible to the facts of the event.

Titled “Getting It Right,” the promo features virtually every main member of the cast and crew, including Berg, Wahlberg, John Goodman, J.K. Simmons, and the real-life law enforcement officials portrayed in the film. All discuss how authenticity was crucial to Patriots Day, both in tribute to and with respect for those who lost lives or suffered life-changing injuries in the terrorist attack, and to ensure that the real sacrifice and heroism shown that day by many, both in and out of uniform, was properly honored.

While there are no bombshell spoilers to be found in the clip’s brief footage from the film (or in the snapshots of behind-the-scenes work undertaken by Berg and Co.), “Getting It Right” conveys the huge effort — from casting Boston residents, to using actual locations where the police manhunt took place — that went into ensuring that Patriots Day hews closely to reality at every turn. Patriots Day arrives in theaters on Dec. 21, 2016.
