'Rogue One' Clues, Callbacks, and Crackpot Theories

Since Disney and Lucasfilm released the cast shot for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story last summer at the D23 Expo, fans have been trying to piece together how the anthology film would fit into the greater universe. Serving as the connective tissue between the TV cartoon series Star Wars Rebels and the 1977 franchise-launching A New Hope, Rogue One, directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), tells the story of a small band of freedom fighters tasked with stealing the plans to the original Death Star. With the release of the first trailer this week, we thought it was time to scan the new spot and previously released photos to see what clues we could unearth.
